It was no spectacular find in the desert. It was simply someone noticing that a dusty manuscript stored in a library was precious. Imagine what else lies undisturbed in the museums of the world, waiting only a scholar's keen eye!

Origen was anathematised wasn't he?

It's a difficult question, some of his students endorsed propositions that are undeniably heretical, but it's an open question how much of it came from Origen himself....of all of Origen's works which we have, there is no trace of the condemned propositions, but that might be because heretical books were usually destroyed....so while there were condemnations of various propositions which were attributed to Origen, it is really an open question how many of them were actually held by him. For its part, the 1913 Catholic Encyclopedia article on Origen concludes that he was not guilty of formal heresy.

But if lost works of Origen are going to be found, I would really like to see a copy of the Hexapla.

The short answer is yes, he was by name anathematized by certain eastern synods. Largely based on what doom said though. (I will add that, at least as far as material heresy goes, Origen, in what we do have, is very clear in holding much of it)

Doom is responsible for getting Origen anathematized?

I would like for them to find a Greek copy of Peri Archon, which would remove some of the doubt about what Origen actually said.

Oh sure, Doom was powerful THEN (in getting Origen anathematized), but can he get gherkin banned NOW? I don’t think so!
