in Brazil, there are bars where you see signs saying something to the effect of "No talk of Sex, Religion, Politics, or Soccer"..

So basically there are pubs where talking is banned entirely?

yeah, but that doesn't stop anyone from talking about those things..

Cubano,

I think you meant a popular saying: "futebol, religião e política não se discute."

We can however discuss religion in pub forum. :)

yeah, you see it around town, in bars... the talk of sex, sometimes you see it mentioned, other times no.. those brazilian bar signs are great, but many of them get lost in translation..
for example, back in the US I saw signs "Free (whatever) when the Sox win the Series". so whenever a team here goes through a rough patch you see "You can buy on credit whenever XXXXX wins the title"
some just aren't mentionable in mixed company..

If printed, it would qualify as a tome of sorts, large but definitely not scholarly.

What if it is political humor?

Political humor inevitably provokes a serious response from someone.

Maybe some people do not know how to laugh properly.

Or maybe it is just the nature of satire that the people who are targeted by it tend not to like it...

I love Catholic and Marxist jokes. Maybe I am less sensitive than most people. :?

Topics tend to drift.

For example,
Quote:
I like Twinkies

Response:

Quote:
Up the Revolution!!!!

So, I guess the Moderatus will decide when the drift occurs. BTW, I am opposed to voter registration checks due to the opportunity for voter suppression. Just a thought.

IDK about pubs, but there's a hilarious scene in the Sherlock episode "The Reichenbach Fall" in which John Watson is brought to the Diogenes Club for a meeting with Mycroft Holmes. John's trying to find Mycroft, and winds up being unceremoniously hauled out because John didn't know about the club's rule of silence.

I tried to post a clip, but couldn't find one.

I think we need to have a forum where the rule is silence. I would frequent it often.

Let me show you how it works ---

I haven't been on for a long time, but I would like to get into the political forum. Is there any way that can happen? Thanks!

might be quicker to pm an admin and ask for admission... they may or or may not peek in here to see that you wish to throw away your soul...seek admission
