Hi, I am new. I am a 55 year old practicing Catholic in the DFW area. I am married and the father to three (sometimes) wonderful boys (with two daughter's-in-law) and the grandfather to two.

I am the member of a small church group and we are doing an Apologetic series this fall and spring. I have been assigned the topics of dealing with (1) the recent scandals of the priesthood, and (2) confession. Does anyone know of a good plain english book or CD series (preferred as I like to listen in my car) that would help me prepare for these topics?

:wave Welcome to the board. Hopefully somebody will come along and give you some help in finding what you're looking for. You might check out Steve Ray's main site and see if he has anything you can use. http://www.catholic-convert.com

Welcome to DCF. The Catechism is always worth a look for the sacrament of penance and reconcilation (confession).

sdecker.

Welcome! :)

With regard to the scandals, I can offer a one-liner:

No amount of scandals can eclipse the Truth of the Catholic Church!

A little late getting here, but welcome to the board. There is a book addressing the sex abuse scandal by a devout and faithful priest, also a clinical psychologist, Fr. Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R. It's called From Scandal to Hope. Hope this helps.

Peace,
Linda

His one and only post was on the 10th of January. I don't think he is coming back. :(

It might be helpful to let people know that this is not a Catholic issue. Protestant clergy are also at fault. (This doesn't excuse the behavior. It just help to clarify the discussion.) I like this reference because it is from the insurance industry. They have no axe to grind either way: Protestant Church Insurers Handle 260 Sex Abuse Cases a Year

Read the John Jay report. That's a good start.
