Hi everyone :)

I'm a student at a public university, and it's making me crazy! I was raised Catholic, but I don't believe that I was "indoctrinated" into our faith without any choice of my own. In one of my courses, I sat and listened to another student make a claim that religion is hand fed from parent to child, and we therefore have no real choice in the matter. I wanted so badly to raise my hand and say something, but I'm pretty shy. I went to Catholic school for part of my life, and the other part was spent in public schools. What a difference! Alas, public university was, financially, the right choice for me, but I miss my parents. They are nearly four hours away, so visits are too rare. I've made some friends on campus, but...it's been difficult to find other Catholics.

Anywho...I found this forum and I'm excited to indulge in some religious conversation, find new friends, and enjoy the company of other Catholics.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to the board, Lampy! :wave

Does your school have some sort of Catholic student center or a Newman Center? Most larger universities, public and private, have them. This link may help you find a Newman Center...

Thanks for the link desertfalcon - we do have a Christian group on campus but I haven't seen anything specifically Catholic, but I will take a look.

And thanks for the warm welcomes everyone!

No problem. As I said, there is usually some sort of Catholic student group at most colleges. If you can't find one on-line or from asking, try asking at the parish that is the closest to your campus.

Great idea, I will absolutely. I've been neck deep in my studies so I haven't really noticed the loneliness too much, but sometimes it can get to me. Spring break is coming up soon and I'll be....hanging out with my parents! ::): Honestly though, I can't wait.

Welcome to DCF Lampy! :)

Just in case there isn't a Newman club at your campus, there usually is something for the college crowd at a Catholic Church nearby.

Two of my college grandchildren attended a Catholic Church near their campus that had a dynamic ministry towards the Catholic youth in their parish. A dear friend of mine has a daughter who attends a university in another state which has the same. They have retreats, socials, Eucharistic adoration, etc.

:wave Hi, Lampy! Welcome to the board.

I'm glad to hear that you found a Catholic club on your college campus. Hopefully, the group is faithful to the teachings of the Church.
