I have heard much in the media, and some here, about the fact page of the DaVinci Code. One thing I have noticed is that many people who have not read the book think the fact page says Jesus was married, was not divine, and fathered a daughter.

Others claim the existence of the fact page means the rest of the claims of the book are also presented as facts. This can be examined by simply comparing the fact page to the other claims.

So, here is the fact page:

Founded by four guys, three of whom fell away from the original plan for it. They were just messing around, not serious...and here it has become an article of lies.

As far as the rest about Opus Dei and secret rituals...another set of lies.

As far as his 'claim' that all rituals are accurate...only in his little mind.

That they practice 'corporal mortification', or more precisely that they do so to a 'dangerous' degree.

That's interesting. I heard an Opus Dei spokesperson on TV last week say they do use the gizmo on the thigh and a cotton whip. She said such mortification had a long history in the Catholic Church. However, she said it wasn't practiced by all OD members.

The key word being 'dangerous'

Oh, and as far as 'corporal moritifcation' goes, certainly a nation that spends billions of dollars a year on things like 'stairmasters' and 'Buns of Steel' videos should be able to understand the simple principle of disciplining the body for the sake of some benefit.

I'd think the gizmo on the thigh and the whip would be for disciplining the mind rather than the body. Buns of Steel and the like make the body stronger and healthier. I don't know what the physical benefit is from the gizmo or the whip, but one can easily see their role in developing a mental discipline.

What's false about this statement? Pretty simple...Opus Dei is NOT a Vatican prelature...it is a personal prelature...based on it's founder. Second...it cannot be BOTH a prelature and a Catholic 'sect'...so that pretty much screws up this statement. Third and NOT least..it is not a topic of controversy. NOT to mention the fallacy of it having 'dangerous' practices....so...this statement is pretty much lies, lies and more lies. Three strikes and YOU are out, Mr. Brown.
