I have always wondered why some TV shows get played over and over - like the Andy Griffith Show - and some never get played, like My Mother the Car, and other forgotten shows.

I was happy to see the SyFy channel bring back The Green Hornet. I watched an all day marathon the other day.

I was never a TV Green Hornet fan, though I liked the radio show.

I suspect the difference between the Andy Griffith shows, and something like My Mother the Car, which I remember well, was that elusive quality, quality. In premise, cast, script and acting.

I thought maybe some of the old film archives of TV shows just got destroyed or disposed of, and thats why they don't get played. I remember a story about a lot of old movies getting destroyed in a fire several yerars ago.

But the return of the Green Hornet proves that thery are out there laying around on some dusty shelf somewhere. I have a feeling that a lot of station programmers are just younger than you and me and just don't remember these things, and just stick with the replays they know.

Maybe. But MMTC is infamously among the worst TV shows of all time. Maybe might be worth a showing, just for that.

Some TV shows, like some movies, are tied up in legal matters. I remember looking for VHS/DVDs of HAVE GUN, WILL TRAVEL, for a long while before finding it was so restrained. Not sure about its status now. The radio show, with John Dehner, is easy to get.

I always wanted to see Ernie Kovacks (remember the Nairobi Trio and Percey Dovetounsils?) but his late wife would not allow them to be shown. Never knew why.

I was really happy some years back when they brought back Sergeant Bilko. In the end there were just two plots and they were just rewritten.
On another ocassion I watched a rerun of The Lone Ranger. At least twice in that episode there were biblical references and they proved appropriate to the story. We certainly cannot allow that sort of stuff to modern day thinking. (Just a reminder that I am not a computer geek so I am in to old time thinking still.)

Oh, I thought this was going to be about the new movie. Though that is probably why SyFy did the Green Hornet marathon.

Oh, I am sure that is the reason why. But I was still happy to see it anyway.

I've got a couple of Kovacs, on dvd.

Do you know if they will be showing any more episodes, say, over the weekend? I plan to watch The Lord of the Rings trilogy starting tonight (it's been almost two years since I watched it last - too long!) but I could DVR some Green Hornet episodes to watch later.

I don't know. My Comcast viewer guide only goes 24 hours in advance. All I can say is, keep an eye out every morning.

I would love to see the Kovak shows. I wonder if they are archived on the net. There are many on different outlets.

Why? In short, because they have an audience. People WANT to see 'The Andy Griffith Show', they don't want to see The Green Hornet.

This is the same reason why albums by The Beatles and Elvis Presley have never been out of print while bands like The Minutemen are not.

Amazing you mentioned 'My Mother The Car' because I just mentioned the same show in a completely different thread. Amazing coincidence.

Maybe those shows would have an audience if people who have never seen them before actually got a chance to see them. I only know of them because I'm an old geezer. Lots of younger folks have never even had the chance to see and like or dislike them

How can I put this?

When you are in the entertainment business, it is easier to make money going with what you know is successful and that people want to see instead of picking something that you want them to see and deciding you are going to throw it in their face again and again until they finally like it.

Well, the Catholic News Service has panned the new Green Hornet movie:

I liked The Green Hornet TV program when I was a kid. It was made by the same studio that did Batman and I remember looking forward to the crossover episode where Batman and Robin were going to fight the Green Hornet and Kato. It made for some good arguments in the school yard. Watching a bit on Syfy the other night made me wonder what I saw in it as a kid. It was really a cheesy production with bad scripts and storylines IMO. It did though have Bruce Lee, a neat car, a great theme song, and actually good music throughout. Supposedly they have been working on putting together a movie for 20 years. From the reviews they probably shouldn't have bothered.

To me, the difference was: The Green Hornet was cool, and Batman was corny. Even the way they dress tells the difference between their coolness and corny-ness.

If you mean the TV shows, I agree.

Yes, the TV shows.

The NEW Batman is very dark... ..certainly not "corny". On the other hand, from what little I have seen of the Green Hornet Movie through the TV ads, they seem to have introduced an element of "corny" into him. I hope I am wrong.
