Have any of you ever invested in a Catholic Annuity?
It seems that you should be willing to give more than you receive.
I was checking out the Catholic Extension , and St. Jude Hospital annuities.
At my age 71, if I invest $10,000 I will receive 5.9% on my money.
That is almost $600 per year, broken down to $50 per week.
Dosen't sound like much does it?

considering the less than 2% you receive on CDs for a 5 year committment...it ain't bad

So the rate you get is based on your age?

Are annuities some form of governmentally approved tax protected plan like a 401k?

I've had an annuity for maybe 30 years, it has a guaranteed 4% minimum, and at one time was over 6%. There is no tax on interest earned, unless we ask for funds. We can draw out money when we are in need. Last fall we needed a few thou for a car and received it within a week. In the future there could be a set amount withdrawn monthly for our living if needed.

I think when investing in an annuity
for religious cause you have to be of the
mind set that it is better to give than to receive,
because even though 5.9% beats today's Cd's
it still isn't a lot of money.

I don't think it's that easy to find annuities that pay 5.9%. For an investment with a guaranteed rate of return and no risk, I'd be happy with that.

Try to find any commercial annuity that will pay as well.

There are other church related annuities that pay even better. Look around, you can find them.
