At the Confiteor, when uttering the words "...through my fault, my fault, my grievous fault..." or the like (I do not remember the exact new English wording).

The current translation is "through my own fault"; I think the new translation will be "through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault."

It is also good to strike one's breast at the Domine, non sum dignus: "Lord, I am not worthy."

Hmmmm... we don't say that at mass. Not at any mass that I recall and I attend at least weekly.

The Confiteor ("I confess to Almighty God etc.") is only one of the options for the Penitential Rite. The others are shorter and are used more often (in my experience at least).

We will say that in English when the Advent comes this year.

Yes, IF the optional Confiteor is said.

i think we have said the Confiteor once at a Solemnity since i have become Catholic .... it is almost always said at daily Masses... it would seem to me that is backwards ... makes more sense to say the Confiteor with the largest group of people

I never strike my breast during the current translation of the confiteor. We were taught to during the elevation after the consecration, both times.

The striking of the breast is new to 99.999999% of the parishioners.

If they do not see it in writing, it will not register.

so it's not a change then...right? it's something they should have been doing all along...and they just forgot or never knew from the start

That is correct. It has been an instruction since the Mass was promulgated in 1972.

So, now we have an opportunity to educate them - my guess is that in the rush to get things printed, this important thing was overlooked.

We will be printing our own.

they missed that part in my RCIA class...i guess since, as i said, the Confiteor is never recited at any Solemnity celebrated at our parish

Redemptionis Sacramentum says that Form A demonstrates the reconcilliation between brothers called for by Matthew 5 in it's clearest form.

Quote:
The practice of the Roman Rite is to be maintained according to which the peace is extended shortly before Holy Communion. For according to the tradition of the Roman Rite, this practice does not have the connotation either of reconciliation or of a remission of sins, but instead signifies peace, communion and charity before the reception of the Most Holy Eucharist. It is rather the Penitential Act to be carried out at the beginning of Mass (especially in its first form) which has the character of reconciliation among brothers and sisters..

Perhaps you might want to bring that up with your parish.

We use Form A pretty much exclusively in our parish.

It is so nice when someone gets it. A rare event for me since sometimes even I don't get it.
