I am thinking of this passage from 1 cor 7: 7-8

"7 For I would that all men were even as myself: but every one hath his proper gift from God; one after this manner, and another after that. 8 But I say to the unmarried, and to the widows: It is good for them if they so continue, even as I. 9 But if they do not contain themselves, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to be burnt. 10 But to them that are married, not I but the Lord commandeth, that the wife depart not from her husband."

Is it better to remain unmarried if you "are strong enough?"

How should one read this?

Strictly speaking, celibacy is the higher call. However, not all are called to celibacy, so you are pleasing God the most by doing His will for you.

What Bon said. It is true that celibacy is higher, but not everyone is called to serve God in that way. Some are called to mirror His life-giving love in the physical realm.

Yes, I agree.

but it seems like St. Paul is saying that you should only get married if you cant "restrain" yourself. Am I reading it horribly wrong? :P

Sort of, but I don't have time to explain at the moment.
