My son has learned the Table Blessing in Latin. We always end our grace with a little prayer that I would love to teach him in Latin. The free online translation sites leave quite a bit to be desired with accuracy.

The prayer is this:

"Lord, give food to the hungry. For those who have food, let them hunger after You."

Pretty please... a translation in Latin?

" senior , tribuo victus ut ieiunium. Illi quisnam have victus , permissum lemma ieiunium secundum You. "

so this isn't right?

Check the following:

http://gracebeforemeals.com/saying_grace.php

Blessing Prayer in Latin:

Oremus. Benedic, Domine, nos et haec tua dona, quae de tua largitate sumus sumpturi. Per Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.

Blessing After Meal in Latin:

Agimus tibi gratias, omnipotens Deus, pro universis beneficiis tuis, qui vivis et regnas in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Grant to us, we beseech Lord, the bread of Angels and the bread of men.

I like that

It might be good, just for the sake of tradition, to add a quaesumus or similar word meaning ask or beseech. Not necessary though

Da alimenta, quaesumus Domine, esurientibus habentesque alimenta esuriantur ad te.

so this isn't right?

No. In fact it does not mean anything

Senior in Latin refers to an elderly person, in Rome someone over 45. Tribuo means "I grant, allot, divide [in the sense of "dividing spoils])). Victus can mean either conquered or "way of life, nourishment, that which sustains life". ut has no meaning here that I can tell. It would be like me and adding an and randomly in a sentence. jejunium means a fast. Illi is those, but not necessary. Illi quisnam "Those who on the other hand". "Have" means "Hail" (it is the same as Ave as in Ave Maria, h is sometimes used, sometimes not).. Lemma means epigram? What the heck is that doing there? You is English not Latin

I think you get the point. We could greatly modify it and make it work

Tribue, quaesumus Domine, victus esurientibus. Illis quinam victus habent, tribue ut esuriantur ad te

Secundum means after in a temporal sense.

Whoever this person is, he is not honest. If he spoke Latin, then how does he speak English? In complete and utter gibberish?

What he gave you probably was from a bad online translator. hence "have" and "you" were not even translated (which is weird because they are easy words to translate) and all cases and conjugations were wrong, as well as word choice. I mean

Put the key-o in el car-o is better Spanish than that is Latin

Heck even Google translate does a far better job

Date escam esurientibus. Qui enim cibus esuriant post te.

The first sentence is grammatically correct, just not right number rise. Date means "Give" but is plural like "All of you give food to the hungry". Escam works, it means "meat, food". So. "Give ye meat to the hungry." The second is where it breaks. "Enim" means for in the sense of "because". He was a fat man, for he ate much food. Still it is worlds better than what this person gave you

In fact, I can tell you where this guy got his gibberish from

http://www.translation-guide.com/free_o ... h&to=Latin

First hit for "latin translation online" on Google. It gives the same exact gibberish you received
