Here's one of mine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJfuWhMQ3Tc

Soupy, I pray that God will take into account your good humor when or as (depending upon kairotic time) he stands before Him in judgement.

By coincidence, I was watching one of my favorites of days gone by last night.

I find none of those weird. I'm a classic mystery collector. Rockford was all right, as a comedy.

depends on what you mean by 'younger'... in this forum that could encompass a great number of days

as a child i remember watching mighty mouse , the 3 stooges , rocky and bullwinkle, captain kangaroo and the flintstones

as a youngster i watched i love lucy (reruns of course), the dick van dyke show , leave it to beaver (reruns) , get smart , bonanza , twilight zone, the alfred hitchcock hour and bewitched

as a teenager i remember mod squad, the rookies, laugh in , columbo , the avengers and mcmillan & wife

the only thing i actually remember watching during college was star trek reruns during the day and monday night football... maybe archie and edith started during that time...i actually don't recall

It's great to see a pie thrown to Alice Cooper in Soupy show. :)

I used to watch Soupy shows.

I don't remember Buffalo Bill, Jr. Perhaps they did not show it on Detroit TV. Or perhaps it was that accursed 4" screen with the bubble thing over it that made it almost impossible to watch anything. However, I do remember The Lone Ranger, Buster Brown Show, Sealtest Big Top, Milky the White Pines Clown, Howdy Doody, etc. from the 1950s.

Soupy topped them all for me. I don't remember when he started but I do remember that he first broadcast from WXYZ Detroit. I can do a great imitation of both White Fang and Black Tooth. Want to hear?

I'm a big James Garner fan. He comes from very similar people to my own.

Buffalo Bill, Jr was one of Gene Autry's Flying A productions of 50s westerns. The star, Dick Jones, started as the side kick on Jock Mahoney's Range Rider show (also a Flying A show). He was a fantastic rider and quality stunt man, who had started his career at around age 5, riding in Hoot Gibson's rodeo show. Dick Jones is still alive.

With the exception of the White Pines Clown (a local show?), those you list were among my favorites. Highlander (I have learned) can do a fine imitation of Froggy the Gremlin.

Was not, generally,a Soupy fan. Except once or twice.

Have Gun will Travel was the finest Western I ever saw or for that matter ever heard on radio. There was always a moral to the stories. The sophistication was quite different from almost anything else on the tele.

GKC,
You are one of the few people I know who remember Froggy the Gremlin.

Colombo, as a character, is kind of a weird guy, but I don't think there is anything weird about liking him....I grew watching Lt. Colombo....indeed, I miss the re-runs that used to run every day on A&E....

I miss the days when A&E used to actually show quality entertainment rather than an endless string of inane 'reality' shows....

Sigh...

And the mention of Colombo reminds me of one of my favorite jokes from an episode of The Simpsons, Police Chief Wiggum says 'I'm not such a bad detective, in fact I solved the mystery on an episode of Colombo once' and then Eddie says 'Chief, they tell you who did it at the beginning of every episode' and Wiggum replies 'yeah, but you have to remember it' :laughhard

I had a plastic squeeze toy of him. It stuck out its tongue and razzed you, when squeezed. A picture of it may be seen here, with other much info I also remember.

And I was listening on my Hopalong Cassidy Arwin radio late one night in 1955, when I heard that Smiling Ed had died (found dead on his yacht, as I recall).

Then I remember Andy's Gang.

Growing up in Lebanon some of the American shows we used to watch were Hawaii Five O, Rifleman, Bonanza, Chips, Wonder Woman, and Payton Place. When I came to the States I fell in love with the American SitCom and at the top of the list are the Honeymooners and All in the Family. I have all the episodes of both.

Oh yeah, forgot about Steve Austin (the 6 million dollar man) and later the bionic woman, those were great too.

I found the beginning and ending dates for some of my favorites.

1. Howdy Doody 1947-1960. Howdy was born the year I was.
2. Soupy Sales 1953-1979, but not without some breaks.
3. Highway Patrol 1955-59.
4. Have Gun Will Travel 1957-63
Then some years later...
5. The Prisoner 1967-68
