My education in the Eastern Catholic Faith continues. I have been accepted for study and discernment of the diaconate and begin classes on June 12th at St. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Pittsburgh.

I am.............overwhelmed.

I did not expect the list of books and reading that I will have to do. At least one of these books, BEING AND COMMUNION by Hieromonk John D. Zizioulas appears to be written on a doctorate level. I know this because I bought the book a couple of years ago and when I attempted to read it, found I was in over my head in a hurry. I have since re-read it at a much slower and deliberate pace and it is still very deep. If this is the quality of reading I am facing, I think I am in big trouble!!

Nonetheless, I accept the challenge and look forward to the first year's study, even if for no other reason than to increase my knowledge of the Eastern Catholic Faith.

Your prayers for this, and some other issues I am discerning related to this, will be appreciated!

Congratulations! I know you have been on this journey a long time. I will remember you in prayer.

Thank you. I need the prayers. I believe this is going to be the hardest thing I have ever done.

Remember, I have no formal college education, which makes them accepting me even more of a miracle in my opinion.

BTW -- My good friend and cantor at our parish had a rather whimiscal take on it. He told me that even if I blow out, I'll still get a really neat cassock out of the deal!

You'll get it. Find some peace to study in. The Holy Spirit is there to help.

As long as you have both the desire, and internally driven discipline - you will be fine!
