They still make marbles, and tops, so you can get those and play to your heart's content, but you'd look funny in a flour sack dress.

In the days of the flour sack dresses all the women looked different now they all look alike in their skin tight jeans. I would like to see some colorful dresses on the ladies so they don't look like they all came from the same cookie cutter. I drive by the high school four times a day and see all the carbon copy kids.

In the 60s the hippies wanted to be different so they all dressed alike, smelled alike and thought alike until they became the most homogeneous group of people who ever lived.

I miss my home town: Oldham, North West England. (Locals pronounce it Owdam): Local motto: "You don't need to have a sense of humour to live here, but it helps." (that's humor to Americans).

Other things I miss: OB Bitter Beer (Some silly sod knocked the Brewery down)!
Black Pudding with my bacon, eggs and bangers. :cloud9:
Lancashire Hot Pot.
Hollands Pies, pudding and chips (fries to Americans) with mushy peas and decent English muffins (not the hockey pucks they laughing call English muffins sold in the USA)

On the brighter side, I can get Boddington's beer here (Cream of Manchester - locally known as 'Bodies'). When I was in Oldham my Sister in Law once asked me if I had bodies in the basement - I said, "No they're in the fridge". (Well, they were! I had a six pack!) :laughhard

I miss the feel of dialing a rotary phone. I kinda miss old televisions, not that'd I'd want to trade for what we have nowadays. I liked looking inside the back of the tv when the cover was off, all the tubes and stuff were really cool. I remember the tv going diagonal, and times when certain colors didn't seem to work, then going to the store with my dad to test the tubes.

I got a rotary phone, circa 1958.

I got a tube tester. But I gave it to my son in law.

I miss the smell of barns, of bookshops in damp weather, of fields of mown hay ...the sound of autumn leaves under my feet, a small unseen brook flowing, of children in the street at Halloween.

But I live in New Mexico and much is attributable to the climate. And the fact that kids' parents have abandoned Halloween -- except in sterile, hyper-sate facsimiles.

Ah, I empathize. And, of course, you have learned, or will, that you can never go home again.

Though I've had but few, I miss a proper English breakfast. Tomatoes and all.

The kind I haven't lost.

Mostly glass, a few clays.

My house smells like a bookshop in damp weather.

I do too.
