There is no standard as to what constitutes 'classic rock', something is played on a 'classic rock' station if the people who program the music, and the audience WANT it to be played on the station.

For me "Classic Rock" would begin with songs and artists such as these:

Johnny B. Goode - Chuck Berry
    Jailhouse Rock - Elvis Presley
Rock Around The Clock - Bill Haley & His Comets
    Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino
    Tutti-Frutti - Little Richard
That'll Be The Day or Peggy Sue - Buddy Holly & the Crickets
Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On - Jerry Lee Lewis
Bye Bye Love - Everly Brothers
    What'd I Say - Ray Charles
    Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
    Summertime Blues - Eddie Cochran
Blue Suede Shoes - Carl Perkins
I Only Have Eyes For You - Flamingos
For Your Precious Love - Jerry Butler & the Impressions
    Yakety Yak - Coasters
You Send Me - Sam Cooke
There Goes My Baby - Drifters

I doubt there's a single 'classic rock' station in this country that would play any of those songs

Not the point. Classic Rock means different things to various age groups.

That is laughable. :laughhard If Aerosmith must be represented, there is no way that any song other than "Dream On" is appropriate.

exactly... i have no problem with aerosmith being on the list...though i question them in the top 10...but sweet emotion would certainly not be the song... the idiots compiling the list missed it on quite a few of the songs in the top 20

one of the 2 stations has answered my question...coming from the dj on shift

Quote:
Houston's Eagle wrote: "The definition of what constitutes classic rock changes all the time. We are pretty heavy 70's, but do play 60s-80's. Pearl Jam and Nirvana were at their peak in the 90's, so that's still a little too new for us. A ton of research goes into what we play...and we conduct music tests a couple times a year, so also determines what we play. Also, we're a hits station, so we stick with what got airplay when it was new and what was popular. I hope that answers your question.

We believe in giving the audience what they want.

Thanks for listening.

who knew pearl jam was not rock and roll
