So wait. You mean this story is not quite up to Sir Arthur's (Conan Doyle) standards?

Probably because Langdon doesn't smoke a pipe.

I haven't seen the movie, and won't, but Mr. Akin confirms something I suspected. I know who and what Ian MacKellan is, but he can add a lot to a movie, good or bad.

Yeah, his public comments and his campaigning for gay rights obviously bug me, but he is a brilliant actor. He was excellent as Gandalf.

And even better as Magneto

Well...I had an image of Gandalf and could match McKellan's performance against it. He measured up. I had no such image of Magneto, so I can't judge. Going to see X3 next week, though. My wife, no comics fan, is solidly hooked.

The movie has great actors, so it's no wonder. In addition to McKellan (who was a terrifying Richard III) I love Patrick Stewart (cause he looks like my dearly departed grandpa, whom I love and miss so much) and I also really enjoy Hugh Jackman's work.

Plus, it's just really, really cool. ;)

FWIW, my favorite character in the movies so far has been Rogue (Anna Pacquin). While I am not a huge fan of the character in the comics, Paquin manages to give Rogue a sense of degree of shynessm vulnerability and even sweetness that makes her a very compelling character, frankly much more interesting than the version in the comics, and the fact that Pacquin is, well.... extremely nice to look at, doesn't exactly detract from the viewing experience.

That's the thing about the XMen movies...they were no dummies. They made sure there was plenty of prettiness all the way around.

Hugh Jackman, Famke Janssen, Anna Pacquin, Rebecca Romijn, etc. etc. etc.

Was he the character played by the guy from Cabaret and Circle of Friends?

Apparently, Alan Cummings just didn't want to wear all that makeup again, and who can blame him?
