A friend sent me a link to a wikipedia entry that stated Stephen Colbert was a practicing Catholic and that he actually defends the faith. But for me wiki is like something written on a bathroom wall.

I've googled it but so much comes up, hard to separate truth from opinion.

Yes, he's Catholic. Is this a more reputable link: http://stephencolbertonline.com/biography.htm

It's a fan link.

He's one of 11 children I think. That's usually indicative of Catholic... or Mormon. :)

He is a cafeteria Catholic. He goes to mass and is active in his parish.

You have to be a Cafeteria Catholic if you are Liberal. If you are not a Cafeteria Catholic then there is no way youi are a Liberal.

Could you explain to me why he qualifies as a Cafeteria Catholic?

I don't agree with this, as much as I loathe the "liberal" mindset. Some people are just less educated in their faith. They believe everything they think the Church teaches; they do not reject what they know to be Church teaching. I know people like this, so please don't tell me they don't exist.
