As a new acolyte, I was told by the priest to take the
left over consecrated wine, and pour it back into the wine
bottle containing wine that is not yet consecrated.
I did what i was told, but have a feeling this is not what
canon law stipulates.
Am I right?

That sounds like a serious abuse to me.

The leftover Precious Blood is to be consumed immediately, IIRC.

It is a serious abuse, and here is why. Suppose the "unconsecrated" wine goes bad. Someone pours it out, thinking, "It's OK, it hasn't been consecrated yet." That person would have unknowingly poured Our Lord's Most Precious Blood down a sink!

don't most parishes have a sacrarium?

Yes, but that isn't how one disposes of the Most Precious Blood. :fyi:

Correct, you are not supposed to just pour it down there.

Perhaps you could ask for clarification from your Pastor?

My pastor is on a seven week vacation in Europe.
When he comes back I will ask for clarification.
It's possible I misread his instructions.

Well, in the meantime you can't continue pouring the Most Precious Blood back into the bottle with unconsecrated wine. It's a sacrilege and no priest can legitimately ask you to do it.

Exactly. If the wine has been consecrated, it must be consumed.

It should be consumed by the celebrant, a concelebrant, a deacon, or an EMHC. If none of those are available, then I think you are within your rights to consume It yourself to avoid profanation. If there's a lot left so that you'd be in danger of intoxication, then look around for someone to help, and see if you can tell whoever prepares the chalice for Mass that they need to put less in.

ETA: An installed acolyte would go ahead of the EMHC on that list, but unless you've got a lot of ex-seminarians around, you won't have any of those.

My guess is that Holy Communion is being distributed under both kinds, which can make it difficult to estimate how much will be needed.

Could it be possible that the instructions are such that the unconsecrated wine sits to the side in a flagon/pitcher/cruet that the wine is poured from there to the Chalice(s) to be consecrated. That the wine that remains in the flagon/pitcher/cruet back on the credence table - that is NOT consecrated at that Mass is to be poured back to a larger container of unconsecrated wine?

Daily Mass attendance doesn't vary all that much.

Your bishop needs to know about this ASAP.

Fr. Kenobi - if you pour the Blood of Christ into wine, does that change the wine into the Precious Blood by contacting it ?

No; in fact the Presence ceases as soon as the Blood is sufficiently diluted.
